4 Dec : "I just got back from four weeks in Mexico, filming the Zorro sequel with Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Film and television—that's mainly what I've been doing lately, but I'm just itching to get back to theatre again." Spoken by Shuler at last night's opening of Pacific Overtures on Broadway! Shuler is currently filming an episode of Law & Order : SVU in which Pacific Overtures star B D Wong is a regular. More, including photo, at Playbill 24 Nov : Shuler is about to film a guest-starring role in the New York TV series Law and Order : Special Victims Unit. He's now set to visit New York, where he'll do a reading of a new musical based on MASK (the 1985 Peter Bogdanovich film which starred Cher.) Shuler will play a biker named Dozer, and says the show has some really great rock-style music which he's looking forward to singing! More exciting projects are in the works, so stay tuned! 23 Oct : Those of you with the 2 disc Collector's Edition of Van Helsing were probably as fascinated as I was to discover Shuler's involvement in Bringing Mr Hyde to Life! SciFi Wire has a short article about this here 15 Sept : Shuler sends word that he's having a great time filming ZORRO in Mexico. He is enjoying working with Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones and all the cast and crew - and "between riding horses and learning to drive a wagon, I feel like a true westerner!" He is due to return to Mexico for one more month of shooting. 31 July : FilmForce reports that the Zorro sequel is to be called The Legend of Zorro and that British actor Rufus Sewell has been cast as Zorro's rival for Elena's affections. One of the latest items in Jackman's Landing's Charity Auction is the Musical Stages magazine featuring the great interview with Shuler and Hugh from back when they appeared together in Oklahoma - personally signed by both Shuler and Hugh! Head on over to JL's Ebay Page for the chance to bid for this fantastic item - signed by TWO Tony Award Winners!! All proceeds from the sale will benefit the Lighthouse Foundation, one of Hugh's favourite charities. And warmest congratulations to Hugh on his richly deserved success in winning both the Tony and Drama Desk awards for his amazing performance in Boy From Oz. 15 May : An enthusiastic review of VH at 2theadvocate says "Tony Award-winning actor Shuler Hensley is the best Frankenstein monster since Karloff. An articulate, Bible-reading creature, he only looks like a fiend. And there's the rub. Hensley's Frankenstein is the poignant result of circumstances beyond his control. If people didn't judge the monster by his strange and fearsome appearance, they'd see he's actually a gentle giant." 14 May : Shuler's local paper features a great article about their Monster from Marietta! 12 May : The animated prequel to VH, "Van Helsing: The London Assignment" (Van Helsing's search for the evil Mr Hyde) was released on DVD yesterday. Nic reports that bonus features include some great interviews with Shuler, with LOTS of Shuler in the makeup chair and on his stilts! Plus a reminder that Shuler has voiced Frankenstein's Monster for the VH video game, also now on sale. And USA Today has put together a great feature on "the men behind the monsters" - Shuler, Will Kemp and Richard Roxburgh. 11 May : Some of us think it's great fun, others ~ erm ~ don't, but despite the reviews, Van Helsing was the biggest hit at the US box office over the weekend, making more than the other top ten movies combined, and is Universal and UIP's biggest opening weekend of all time!! The film earned $51.7M (£30.2M) in America on its first weekend, and also earned $53M in 41other countries where it debuted at the same time! Moviegoers seem to have ignored the critics and according to Box Office Guru : "Reactions from the public have been generally positive with the average grade for the fright flick on Yahoo Movies being a decent B from more than 8,000 users." And if you think some people left their sense of humour at home when they went to see VH, you might get a kick out of what Harry has to say over at Ain't It Cool News (though be warned that his prose is rather "colourful"!) I loved every action packed minute, and in a beautifully sympathetic performance Shuler brings the same degree of dignity and humanity to Frankenstein’s Monster that he brought to Oklahoma’s Jud Fry.
