I
defy you to tell me that this film doesn't feature one of the most
faithful representations of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein Monster ever put
on the screen. Shuler Hensley is magnificent in a role which somehow
seeks to translate the creature of the novel, while still giving a nod
to the 1930s movie series. And I proudly admit to the childish grin that
crossed my face when he shouted out "Friend!" (The

Bob
Ducsay and I went to see Oklahoma! on Broadway. Afterwards we thought 'Man, the
guy who played Jud Fry was spectacular. The character is so rich - so sad and lonely and
you feel so bad for him.
About a month later we were back
in New
York casting for Frankenstein's Monster and he walked in. We
were like - 'Of course!'

Having
successfully reinvigorated the creature feature with The Mummy
movies, writer-director Stephen Sommers goes monster mash mad with Van
Helsing, pitting Bram Stoker's vampire hunter against a whole host
of old-school horror bad boys in this FX-laden re-imagining of the
'Dracula' myth. Set in the late 19th century, Hugh Jackman stars as the
titular monster expert. A mercenary for the Catholic Church who spends
his time slaughtering the possessed souls of rogues and demons, he's
summoned to a distant eastern European land to hunt down Count Dracula (Roxburgh),
taking on Frankenstein's Monster (Hensley) and the Wolf Man (Kemp) along
the way. Featuring Dracula as a winged bat-like demon, Frankenstein
looking like a savage cyborg and Wolf Man as a hulking lycanthrope, it's
a long way from the capes, bolts and hairy faces of old! (Channel
